Well-being index takes holistic view

The Canadian Index of Well-being was launched Wednesday as a way to present a more accurate measure of the country's state of affairs than is provided by gross domestic product.

"The only measurement we have now, not only in Canada but generally, is the measure identifying itself as the GDP," former Saskatchewan premier Roy Romanow, who chairs the institute developing the index, said in an interview.
