The Honourable Roy J. Romanow, Chair, Institute of Wellbeing Advisory Board, today introduced the Institute’s signature product, the Canadian Index of Wellbeing (CIW). The CIW is a new and better way of measuring Canadians’ quality of life. Right now our country lacks a single, national instrument for tracking and reporting on how Canadians are really doing. The CIW will report on trends and changes in eight interconnected areas that are vital to Canadians’ quality of life – our standard of living, our health, the vitality of our communities, our education, the way we use our time, our participation in the democratic process, the state of our arts, culture and recreation and the quality of our environment. It will encourage policy makers to make evidence-based decisions that respond to the values and needs of Canadians in a way that improves their quality of life.
